WHAT IS SHROOM TEA?

Shroom tea is exactly what you think it is: tea with any legal mushrooms. Whether you intend to ingest them for a ceremonial healing, a therapeutic journey, or just for fun, this process, we find, really does connect you deeper with the fungi, can be easier on your stomach, and possibly have a stronger effect.

WHY PEOPLE PREFER MAGIC MUSHROOM TEA

Drinking mushroom tea is a beautiful way to create a ritual around your consumption, and it is one of our favorite ways to dive in. Shroom tea benefits are: better taste, faster acting, and shorter lasting experience, lessening nausea and allowing you to pick and choose what therapeutic ingredients to add to the mix!

Are you one of those people who strongly dislike the taste or process of chewing your mushrooms? Do you find mushrooms a little hard on your stomach? Brewing shroom tea and adding your mushrooms can make consuming them much more delightful and lighter on your tummy. Plus, you can add things like green tea, reishi mushrooms, ginger, honey, a chaga tea bag, or other herbal tea bags to make your perfect shroom tea. People like to add their herbal teas of choice, fine mushroom powder, and ground ginger into an empty tea bag to begin the process of gaining the shroom tea effects.

Michelle Janiakian (Author, My Psilocybin Mushroom Companion) did a survey of 50 people and found most people admitted to this consumption method being much easier on the stomach. Chewing raw dried mushrooms can be harder on the stomach and less enjoyable to get down, especially for people who get nauseated or don’t love the taste.

Allowing your mushrooms to steep in hot water, either as a fine powder or as dried and fresh mushrooms, breaks down the dry, organic matter, making digestion much easier. The benefits are extracted into the hot water, so be aware that the effects can come on much faster and potentially stronger.

This is an easy way to mitigate mushrooms' bitter, earthy flavor and actually satisfy the ingestion part of the process. Get creative with the flavors and tea combinations by adding herbs, superfoods, and nutrients.

‍

WHAT TYPES OF MAGIC MUSHROOMS ARE BEST TO USE?

This part is entirely up to you. You can really use any kind of mushroom, the variety is very diverse, and the same goes for your experience. We recommend experimenting and finding a type you connect with and enjoy; feel it out from there.

‍

WHAT INGREDIENTS MAKE SHROOM TEA

This is very simple. The ingredients and process include mushrooms, water, a pot, and a heat source. We also love to add some extra superfood elements and spice to the tea to increase its effectiveness and make it more pleasurable. Some people ground up raw mushrooms like turkey tail or lion's mane to stack benefits. Others brew their shroom tea and then turn it into a tasty iced tea.

Definitely note: Cooking mushrooms into tea can condense and concentrate the effects, so you would probably prefer to use a smaller dose than if you were eating them raw or dried.

‍

BASIC INGREDIENTS FOR MUSHROOM TEA:

Your preferred mushrooms (lions mane, reishi, chaga, turkey tail)

2 herbal or caffeinated tea bags (of your choice)

‍

HOW DO YOU MAKE MUSHROOM TEA AT HOME?

STEP 1: BRING A POT/PAN OF WATER TO A BOIL

Depending on how much tea you have, the weight of the mushrooms, and how strong you want the tea, use your judgment to decide how much water you want to use accordingly. The more mushrooms you use, the more water you’ll need!

For step 1, add 1 cup of water to a pot, pan, or tea kettle. Bring the water to a boil.

‍

STEP 2: GRIND UP THE MUSHROOMS INTO SMALL PIECES

While the water heats up, go ahead and grind up your mushrooms in a bowl. It will make the properties in them easier to infuse with your water. If you don't have a grinder, you can just break the mushrooms into smaller pieces using your hands. Or use a knife to mince into small pieces. (Coffee grinders omit heat and will tamper with the potency of the psilocybin so we do not recommend this). Pour the boiling water into the bowl of mushrooms.

‍

STEP 3: ADD YOUR TEA BAGS TO THE WATER

Add the tea bag to your boiling mushroom water. Let it steep for about 15-20 minutes. If you want to add flavor additives like lemon, garlic, honey, and natural herbs, mix these up in a separate cup of boiling water with the extra tea bag. Then add them to your mushroom concoction.

‍

STEP 4: STRAIN THE MIXTURE INTO A CUP

After about 15-20 minutes, take your mushroom tea mixture and strain it through a coffee filter or sieve it into a glass jar/jug/whatever you want to store or drink it from. This will separate the leftover mushroom chunks and add ingredients to your drinkable beverage.

‍

STEP 5: ENJOY YOUR MUSHROOM TEA

Now pour that infused tea into an adequately sized glass, and you’re all ready to enjoy the benefits of psilocybin. Consume responsibly- we suggest drinking in smaller doses and keeping an eye on your reaction to the mushroom tea.
